In October, demolition of selective portions of the building will continue – all of the interiors will be removed down to the concrete structure, and the center and back of the building will be demolished. Both of the small gyms will remain, and will be repurposed as classrooms in the finished construction. All of the hazardous materials are being cleared out of the building prior to general demolition. Dumpsters and other construction traffic will continue to travel into and out of the site using 42nd to Wallingford Avenue.
The brick mason will begin hanging a hoist from the rooftop parapet in order to start repointing the brick façade of the building. Deteriorated mortar will be replaced, and the brick will be resealed. The work on the wood window frames will continue.
Demolition will continue through October and into November, as will repointing of the brick and work on the exterior windows. The contractor will begin filling in floors within the building and will also selectively remove walls and floors where required for new construction.

The Project 1A contractor Condon-Johnson has completed installation of the 50-foot deep auger-cast piles for the new library/arts addition on the east side of the building (see attached photo). Condon-Johnson also placed and compacted over 900 tons of rock in the courtyard to make a stable construction work pad for the upcoming wet weather season.
Project 1B is scheduled to start in early November and be completed by fall 2009. This includes the new library, art classrooms, KNHC radio station, and a new fitness center.
The project team is continuing design of Project 2, which includes the renovation of the main building including the offices, academic core, cafeteria and commons, and athletic facilities. The design team recently met with the School Design Team (SDT) to discuss student lockers, a new reader board location, exterior courtyards, and the student Activity Center (AC). The design team also met with staff in Project 2 to discuss the design of their spaces.
We appreciate the understanding of students and staff who were impacted by this work, and are pro-actively planning with the next contractor to mitigate potential noise and vibration from construction activities.

As of October 28th, the building of the outer steel structure, which began in the summer, has reached completion for the entire building. The structural concrete blocks are now in place as are the concrete footings and foundation walls.
During October and November construction work will include:
